THINK TOGETHER.
Do you hate what God hates?
READ TOGETHER
Proverbs 13:5. The righteous hates falsehood, but the wicked brings shame and disgrace.
Hate is good when we hate what God hates. God hates falsehood. He hates lies. Solomon says that the righteous person hates falsehood. Of course, there has only been one righteous person to ever live – Jesus!
When we trust in Jesus though, we are made righteous like him. What does that mean? It means God sees us the same way he sees Jesus. God the Father sees Jesus the Son as perfect, and holy. And that is how he sees you too. When your faith is in Jesus, you are counted equal to him.
Now, when we know how God counts us we can also begin to count things the way God does. Things like lying, or falsehood, become gross to us. Because we love God, and because God is truth, we begin to hate lies.
Do you love the truth? Do you hate lying?
Do you hate lying because it gets you into trouble or because it goes against who God is and who you are in Jesus? Hopefully your answer is the second one. Hate sin, not just because of how it hurts you, but because of how it hurts God and others.
Because of Jesus we are counted as righteous like Jesus.
With Jesus we can hate what God hates.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Think about a common lie that we tell (or a recent lie that you told). Together make three lists: 1) How does this lie hurt me? 2) How does this lie hurt others? 3) How does this lie hurt God?
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, help me to love what you love and hate what you hate. Help me to love people but hate the lies that hurt people and hurt you. Amen.
