THINK TOGETHER.
What is your favorite book of the Bible (or Bible story)?
READ TOGETHER
Proverbs 16:20. Whoever gives thought to the word will discover good, and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.
Sometimes the two lines of a proverb are meant to say opposite things. Sometimes they are meant to say the same thing, just in a different way. That’s what this proverb is doing – saying the same thing twice, but in two different ways. What does this mean? It means that to give thought to the word is the same as trusting the Lord.
If you want to learn to trust God more and more you must think about the word of God. The Bible. The Bible is how we know about God. It’s how we know what he is like. It’s how we know what he wants us to do, how he wants us to live. That’s why Solomon says that if we read, and think about the Bible we will discover good. The stories are good. The commandments are good. The wisdom is good. The warnings are good. The poems and psalms are good. The prophecies are good. The Bible is all good. Why? Because all these things teach us that we can trust God.
Yes, the Bible, Gods written word is good, very good, but the Living Word, Jesus, he’s best. He’s the fulfillment of everything in the written word. All the stories, commandments, wisdom, warnings, psalms, and prophecies in the Bible point to Jesus and to his death for us on the cross. In the end we know we can trust the Bible and we know we can trust God because of what Jesus did for us on the cross.
Because of Jesus we know we can trust the Bible and trust God.
With Jesus we can find good in the Bible by finding him.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
If you don’t have a copy of The Jesus Storybook Bible by Sally Lloyd Jones get one. This children’s Bible doesn’t just turn Bible stories into moral lessons, but shows how the stories of the Bible connect to Jesus. If you have a copy read one of the stories together to show how every page of the Bible points to the goodness of Jesus.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, you are the best! Help me to want to know you more and more and know the Father more and more through you. Amen.
