THINK TOGETHER.
Do you remember what it means to be wise? A fool?
READ TOGETHER
Proverbs 17:25. A foolish son is a grief to his father and bitterness to her who bore him.
Your parents love you very much. They love you unconditionally. Do you know what that means? It means they will love you no matter what you do.
But that doesn’t mean that what you do will always make your parents happy or proud. Solomon says it very bluntly. A son (or daughter) that is foolish makes their dad and their mom sad. In fact, a child who acts foolishly is bitterness or sorrow to their mom and dad.
Why is that? Because a mom and dad always want what is best for their kids and foolish kids aren’t seeking what is best. Remember, in Proverbs, to be a fool is to reject God and his loving ways. So a foolish child isn’t just one that makes mistakes sometimes or does the normal things that kids do as they are growing up and learning. The foolish child is rebellious against God and then also their mom and dad. And that kind of rejection of God makes a mom and dad very sad.
But listen, that doesn’t mean that you should pretend to love God just to make your mom and dad happy. No. You should love God because he loves you. Because he sent his only son, Jesus, to die for you on the cross. Because he forgives all your sins and will bring you home to live with him forever.
Your mom and dad don’t want you to believe all this because they do; they want you to believe in him because it’s true.
Because of Jesus we know that God is true.
With Jesus we can be wise and trust God.

PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, I don’t want to be a fool. I want to trust in you and be wise. Amen.
