TLIC FAMILY. PROVERBS. AUGUST 16: EARS, EYES.

THINK TOGETHER.

Think about your ears and eyes? What makes them so special?

READ TOGETHER

Proverbs 20:12. The hearing ear and the seeing eye, the Lord has made them both.

Think about your ears. Did you know that your ears never stop hearing (even when you are asleep), and they never stop growing? Without your ears you would have no balance and you would fall over a lot. Your ears contain the smallest bones in your body; they capture sound and then send it to the brain. Your ears also clean themselves. The wax in your ear is there to capture dust and debris that could damage your inner ear.

Think about your eyes. The eye has over one million light sensitive cells, and seven million photo receptors that help you to see all the details in the things around you, focusing on over 50 things per second. The eye has two million working parts and over 1 million nerves connecting it to your brain. The eye has the fastest muscles in your body allowing you to look around so quickly.

And did you know that no two set of eyes are alike. Like your fingerprints, your eyes are completely unique. God made your eyes special and you special.

Now when Solomon wrote this proverb he probably wasn’t thinking about all these amazing ear and eye facts. He was probably thinking about how we use our ears and eyes. Most of what we learn comes from our ears and our eyes. Your ears and eyes aren’t just in your head; they are connected to your brain. They are the tools God gave us for learning how to be wise and how to know and trust Jesus.

What do you listen to the most? What do you look at the most? Your answers to these questions are very important. Do you take the time to hear about Jesus? Do you take the time to see Jesus in his word, the Bible? Not only did Jesus make your amazing ears and eyes, he wants you to use them to know him and to trust him more. How can you do that today?

Because of Jesus we can have ears that hear and eyes that see God.

With Jesus we can hear and see (and know) the truth of God’s love.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Evaluate as a family what you listen to and look at. What changes might you need to make? How can you add listening to and looking at Jesus into your family life?

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, thank you for my ears and my eyes. But more importantly, thank you that I can know you through what I hear and see. Amen.
