TLIC FAMILY. PROVERBS. AUGUST 28: KINDNESS.

THINK TOGETHER.

What are some ways God has been kind to you?

READ TOGETHER

Proverbs 21:21. Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life, righteousness, and honor.

Of course you know that you should be kind. Your mom and dad and teachers probably tell you every day to be kind. Solomon is no different. He wants his kids to be kind too. Not only that, but he wants his children to pursue kindness. He wants them to chase after it, to hunt it down, to find ways to be kind and intentionally do them.

You might be thinking, “I have enough trouble just being kind when I have to be.” Yep, me too. Bu maybe that’s why we should pursue kindness. If we think about how to be kind, and who to be kind to, and then come up with a “kindness plan,” maybe then kindness will become easier for us.

But having a “kindness plan” is not enough. In order for our hearts to change and really, really want to be kind, we must always remember how kind God has been to us, especially in Jesus. Here’s how the Apostle Paul says it in the book of Ephesians:

Ephesians 4:32. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Paul is saying that the more we think about how kind and forgiving God is to us, the more we will be able to be kind and forgiving to others too. Why? Because we will know that without God’s kindness through the cross of Jesus we would be in deep trouble.

Every day there are people who are feeling troubled, and sad, and who need help. God wants his kindness to come through our kindness. Our “kindness plan” when done by the love of Jesus, becomes God’s “kindness plan” too.

Because of Jesus God has been kind to us.

With Jesus we can pursue kindness.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Develop a kindness plan together. Who? What? When? Where?

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, your kindness has saved me. Help my kindness to save someone else today. Amen.
