Have you ever celebrated a big victory? How did it feel?

In the book of Romans, the Apostle Paul continues to show us exactly who were are with Jesus and all the promises God has made to us because of him. Here in Romans 8:36-37 there is another great promise that is ours because of Jesus. See if you can hear it in these verses:
Romans 8:36-37. 36As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
We are more than conquerors. Do you know what a conqueror is? A conqueror is someone who wins a battle and defeats an enemy. Paul says that we are super conquerors with Jesus. Not because we have won any kind of victory over our sins or our sadness, but because Jesus has won our victory for us – through him who loved us Paul says. This means is that you can mess up today, you can do everything wrong, or you can be in the middle of something really, really hard and you ARE still a super conqueror with Jesus.
Think about Jesus on the cross for a minute. The cross was Jesus’ worst day. His hardest moment. He was covered in sins and sadness. But in that same exact moment he was conquering all sin and all sadness for us. Now when we go through sin and sadness Jesus is always using it to conquer the worst parts of us and replace them with trust and with love. This is what makes us conquerors in Jesus. Not that we never fail, but that we fail and it still becomes something great by God’s grace.
So let’s live like we are winners with Jesus. Let’s live in faith, believing that Jesus uses everything, even our mistakes and failures to make us more like himself.
Because of Jesus we ARE conquerors over sin and sadness.
With Jesus we can live like we have nothing to lose because we can’t lose God’s love.

YouTube search “Top Olympic Celebrations” and watch the video together. Talk about how this is how we will feel in Heaven when our victory is final. But we can also feel this way right NOW. We ARE conquerors with Jesus. So celebrate. How will you celebrate with Jesus?
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, you conquered sin and death for me. Help me to live like a conqueror today, even when I mess up, knowing that you turn everything into a victory. Amen.
