THINK TOGETHER.

Do you like to build things? Why or why not?

READ TOGETHER

Proverbs 24:3-4. ³By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; ⁴by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

Have you ever seen the movie Are We Done Yet? It’s about a family that buys a big beautiful house, but then finds out that there are all kinds of things wrong with the house. The dad thinks he can fix everything, but he can’t, so he has to rely on someone with wisdom to re-build the inside of the house.

When you build something, especially something complicated, like a large Lego set, you follow the instructions don’t you? That’s wise. When mom or dad build a piece of furniture they (try to) follow the instructions so that it will be put together correctly. That’s wise.

More important than Legos, or furniture, or even houses is your life. You are building your life. Did you know that? Your life is like a house with many rooms that you will fill up. The questions is how will you build your life house? What will you put into the rooms? Will it be wisdom, knowledge, and understanding from God? Or will you build without his instructions and hope you get it right?

How do we build our lives on God’s wisdom and knowledge? First we remember that God’s wisdom and knowledge is found in knowing Jesus. Next we must trust Jesus to be our Savior, confessing our sin and receiving his forgiveness. That’s the wisest thing anything can ever do. Then we do everything we can to know him, to learn from him, to follow him. Like reading this devotional every day (wink, wink).

When you know Jesus you can build your life from the instruction book – Jesus is the instruction book. Now you can build your life from his wisdom and fill the rooms of your heart with his love and grace.

Because of Jesus we have all the wisdom we need for building our lives.

With Jesus we can fill our lives with his love and invite others in.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Look at one of your Lego or other building sets. What would it be like to build it without instructions? What would your life be like without Jesus?

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, I want to build my life on you and your love. Help me to always look at you as my instructions. Amen.
