THINK TOGETHER
Have you ever walked somewhere where you had to be very careful?
READ TOGETHER
God wants us to be wise. So does the Apostle Paul. Here’s what he says to the Christians in Ephesus:
Ephesians 5:15. Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise,
This is the seventh and last walk command in Ephesians. Pay careful attention to how you walk, or how you live. This command, like all the rest, is rooted in the idea of BE what you ARE. You ARE wise (not unwise), so BE wise (walk carefully).
Think about that time you had to walk very carefully. Were you in the dark? On a steep path? On slippery ice or water? Did mom or dad yell, “Watch your step!”?
But we’re not talking about how we literally walk are we? No. We’re talking about how we choose to live. Jesus wants us to live carefully. To watch out. To be wise in everything we do.
What does it mean to be wise? In the Bible wisdom always starts with knowing, loving, and trusting God. In the book of Proverbs, it says that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” To fear God is to love and trust him. Do you love and trust God? Do you want to be wise?
To really love and trust God is to love and trust Jesus. Jesus is God’s wisdom. That means that we can love and trust God because of what Jesus has done for us on the cross. Wisdom doesn’t mean we are super smart and have the answers to all of life’s questions. It means that even when we don’t have all the answers we still love and trust God no matter what. Why? Because he loves us no matter what because of Jesus.
Because of Jesus we are wise.
With Jesus we can live a wise life of loving and trusting God.

Jesus, you are my wisdom. Help me to fear God, loving and trusting him more and more each day. Amen.
