THINK TOGETHER.
Do you like lions? Why or why not?
READ TOGETHER
Proverbs 28:1. The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.
Lions don’t typically look over their shoulder to see what’s chasing them. Other than people, no other animals chase lions. No other predator hunts and stalks a lion. The lion is the king of the beasts. They basically go where they want, lie down where they want, chase what they want. They are bold.
This proverbs compares the righteous person to a lion. A righteous person is someone who knows what the right thing to do is, and then they do it. Of course there’s really only ever been one totally righteous person to ever live. Jesus. He always knew what the right thing was, and he always did it.
And he was bold wasn’t he. Jesus was bold in leaving Heaven to come to Earth to attack our sin and to face death on the cross for us. He was bold in how he loved everyone. He boldly confronted wickedness. He boldly did nice things for others. And he boldly told others about the kingdom of God and how to be saved by trusting in him.
Have you done that? Have you boldly confessed your sin to Jesus and trusted in him to be your savior? If you have, then you have been declared to be righteous too. Just like Jesus. And do you know what that means? It means now you can be bold like Jesus too! You can boldly tell others about him. You can boldly do nice and kind things. You can boldly love others. You can boldly even confront wickedness without becoming wicked yourself. You can be a lion!
And when you don’t feel bold, when you get scared, that’s OK too. Why? Because Jesus is always bold for us, and he will be with us no matter what.
Because of Jesus we have his righteousness when we trust in him.
With Jesus we can be bold!
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Watch some nature videos of lions together, or pretend to be lions together. How are lions bold? What do they have that other animals don’t? What do we have with Jesus, that others don’t?
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, I want to be bold like, but often I am more scared than bold. Help me to always know that you are with me and that I have your righteousness. Amen.
