THINK TOGETHER
Have you ever had to be rescued or saved from something?
READ TOGETHER
When I was little, before I knew how to swim, I was pushed into the deep end of a pool. As I sank to the bottom, I thought that I was going to die. Why? Because I had no idea how to save myself. But then somebody jumped into the pool and pulled me up and I was alive! He saved me. I think his name was Paul.
The Bible says that all of us are like a drowning person who can’t save ourselves. God has to save us. Listen to how the Apostle Paul explains our salvation to Pastor Titus here:
Titus 3:3-6. 3For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. 4But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, 5he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, 6whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,
Why did we need to be saved? Because we were born as foolish, disobedient, lost, slaves who were jealous and hateful. Yikes. Does that sound like you? Be honest.
Who saved us? God saved us. Why did he save us? Because of his great mercy. Not because of our goodness. We didn’t have any. We were drowning and unable to save ourselves.
How did he save us? By the appearing of Jesus our Savior. Jesus came to us. He jumped into the pool to save us. He lived and died for our sins, taking our place on the cross. Then, he gave us the Holy Spirit’s regeneration. That means he made us alive. Now we can stop being foolish and disobedient slaves to sin and stop being jealous, mean, and hateful. Now we can live like Jesus.
Because of Jesus we are saved!
With Jesus we can be kind and loving instead of jealous and hateful.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Talk about a time you were saved from physical danger. How does it compare to being saved by Jesus from spiritual danger?
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, you jumped in to save me. You rescued me when I could never rescue myself. Thank you for your great mercy and kindness. Amen.
