TLIC FAMILY. PROVERBS. NOVEMBER 9: PARTIALITY.

THINK TOGETHER.

Do you remember what partiality is? Do you show partiality to others?

Proverbs 28:21. To show partiality is not good, but for a piece of bread a man will do wrong.

All wisdom is founded on God and his character. That means that if the Bible says that something is wise, it is because that is what God is like. It is wise to work hard. Why? Because God works hard. It is wise to tell the truth. Why? Because God tells the truth. It is wise to trust God. Why? Because God is trustworthy.

Today’s proverb tells us that it is wise to not show partiality. Why not? Because God does not show partiality. God is just and fair. God doesn’t do things because we make promises to him, or offer him something like a piece of bread. People will do wrong things for something small, like bread. But what could we possibly give to God that would make him go against his own character and do something wrong, something unfair? Nothing!

Of course, we are not God, we are sinful and so we show partiality all the time. Partiality means that we treat people differently based on how much we like them, or don’t like them. If you brought cupcakes into your Sunday School class and only gave one to the kids that you really like, and refused to give one to the kids that you either don’t know or don’t like, that would be partiality. We might be partial to someone because they are a boy or a girl, black or white, rich or poor, popular or not popular. Do you have people that you show partiality to?

Thank God that he is not partial. Anyone who turns to Jesus for forgiveness and trusts in him to rescue them from death will be saved. Anyone! No partiality. We all can have Jesus and all of his blessings. God doesn’t have favorites. He knows what is best for each and every one of us and he always gives us exactly what we need. It might look different or partial at times, but it’s not, it’s just different. God does different things for us because we are all different, but he always does what is best.

Because of Jesus there is no partiality with God.

With Jesus we can be impartial too, treating everyone with love and respect.
