TLIC FAMILY. PROVERBS. DECEMBER 5: ASTONISHED.

THINK TOGETHER.

Have you ever been astonished by something?

READ TOGETHER

Mark 6:2. And on the Sabbath [Jesus] began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things? What is the wisdom given to him? How are such mighty works done by his hands?

Obviously Jesus is the wisest human to ever live. When Jesus was alive on Earth he would teach others about God and his salvation. Mark 6:2 says that when people heard Jesus’ wisdom they were astonished. Amazed.

What did Jesus’ teach? Well, he taught what Proverbs teaches us, that there are only two paths in this life. A path to God and a path away from God. And every single person is on one of these two paths. One path leads to life and the other path leads to death.

Jesus taught that the path that leads to life is the gospel. The good news that he came as a baby in order to be one of us and understand us. That he died for our sins as our substitute. That he rose again from the dead so that we can receive his life as a free gift by faith.

Does this story of Jesus astonish you? Are you amazed by it?

What’s even more amazing is that the wisdom given to Jesus is also given to us. When you receive Jesus you are receiving the wisdom of God. The wisdom that says God loves you and died for you on the cross. The wisdom that says that you can be loved and accepted by God and be placed on the path to his everlasting life. And the wisdom that says that you can trust in the Lord with all your heart and let his Holy Spirit guide your life, making you like Jesus as you learn to trust him.

Because of Jesus God’s wisdom is a gift we can receive.

With Jesus we can have his same amazing wisdom.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Look at a nativity scene together. In what ways is it very simple? In what ways is it the most astonishing thing ever?

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, your wisdom is astonishing. And you didn’t keep your wisdom all for yourself. You are sharing it with me. Help me to trust you and your astonishing love for me all the days of my life.
