THINK TOGETHER.
Have you ever been astonished by something?
READ TOGETHER
Proverbs 9:1-3. 1Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn her seven pillars. 2She has slaughtered her beasts; she has mixed her wine; she has also set her table. 3She has sent out her young women to call from the highest places in the town,
Her. She. She. She. She. She.
In Proverbs 9 Solomon personified wisdom. Can you say personified? What shorter word do you hear in this long word? That’s right – person. To personify something means to talk about it as if it is a person instead of a thing or an idea. Solomon personified wisdom. He turned wisdom into a person. A woman. A woman who invites us to her house for a party.
Why do you think Solomon made God’s wisdom into a person?
Well, when Jesus came to Earth, he too called wisdom a person. Himself. Jesus said that he is God’ wisdom as a person. What does that mean?
You see, according to God we don’t become wise by reading a bunch of books, or by going to school for a long time, or by learning lots and lots of new things. All of those things are fine to do, but by themselves they don’t make you wise. In fact, even reading the Bible a lot, or knowing all of its stories doesn’t make a person wise. Why not? Because God’s wisdom is a person – Jesus! To be wise you must know Jesus. You must have a relationship with him. God’s wisdom is not just having a bunch of head knowledge, it is having love for God and for his Son, Jesus.
Are you wise? Do you have a relationship with Jesus? He came to Earth as a baby so that he could have a relationship with you. He wants to know you and love you. Do you want to know and love him? If you do, then you are wise.
Because of Jesus we can have a personal relationship with God.
With Jesus we are wise when we simply let him love us.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Parents, share with your kids your testimony of how you came to have a relationship with Jesus. Have they ever heard the story before?
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, I want to have a relationship with you. Thank you for loving me and forgiving me. Amen.
