TLIC FAMILY. PROVERBS. DECEMBER 9: FEAR.

THINK TOGETHER.

Do you remember the Christmas story of Mary?

READ TOGETHER

Proverbs 1:7. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Mary was just minding her own business, living in a town called Nazareth, when all of a sudden the angel Gabriel appeared to her and told her that she would be the mother of Jesus. I’ll bet she was pretty surprised and even confused. Why? Because she wasn’t even married to her fiancé Joseph yet. Why would God choose her? She was not important, or rich, or famous. But she did NOT despise wisdom and instruction. She listened and obeyed.

Mary heard what God said to her through the angel Gabriel and she received it as truth. She believed it. She said even though this does not make sense, I will still obey you God and be Jesus’ mom.

Mary feared the Lord more than she feared what other people would think or say about her.

Mary feared the Lord more than she cared about her own comfort.

Mary feared the Lord more than she needed to understand everything that was happening to her.

Mary was wise. Here’s what she said to Gabriel, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.”

Fearing the Lord Jesus is the best present you can give him on his birthday. Letting him know that you love him and trust him, and that because you trust him you will let him have his way in your life. If you do that this Christmas, you too will be wise like Mary was.

Because of Jesus we know that fearing God is the best choice we can make.

With Jesus we can fear God by trusting him and doing what he says to do.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Read the story of Mary in Luke chapter 1. Listen to Mary Did You Know too. Mary trusted what she did know, even if she didn’t know everything.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, help me to fear the Lord like Mary did and like you did. I want to trut that you know what is best for me. Help me. Amen.
