THINK TOGETHER.
In what ways have you grown this year?
READ TOGETHER
Proverbs 6:20. My son, keep your father’s commandment, and forsake not your mother’s teaching.
You might remember that the book of Proverbs was written by a father (King Solomon) to his son. By making the book of Proverbs a book that anyone can read, every son and every daughter can now grow up to be a wise child that brings honor to God and to their parents.
Did you know that, like you, Jesus was once a child, a student, a sibling, that had to learn wisdom? He had to grow up just like you. Listen to how Luke describes Jesus here in Luke chapter 2:
Luke 2:40. And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom. And the favor of God was upon him.
Luke could have written that same verse about you. You are growing. You are becoming strong. You are filled with wisdom. And the favor (grace) of God is upon you, especially if you have Jesus living in your heart (do you?).
Have you grown taller and stronger this past year? That’s great!
But have you grown wiser this past year? Do you trust God more? Do you love what he loves? Are you listening to mom and dad better? I hope so.
Jesus living in our hearts makes all of this possible. When you know you have Jesus and his love no matter what, and when you know that in the end you will be with him forever, it makes it easier to trust God and even to trust mom and dad, even when we don’t understand or don’t agree. Why? Because we have faith that everything is for our good and God’s glory. Therefore, we can be wise and follow instead of fight.
Because of Jesus trusting God is possible.
With Jesus we can grow in wisdom too.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Talk about how much your kids have grown physically this year. Think about ways they have grown in wisdom too. Encourage their growth in Christ.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, you had to grow in wisdom and so do I. I want to grow in my trust in you this Christmas season. Amen.
