THINK TOGETHER.
Can you see God’s wisdom in nature? Where?
READ TOGETHER
Proverbs 8:22 “The Lord possessed me [Wisdom] at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of old.”
In Proverbs 8 Wisdom is talking as if she is a person (Wisdom is always a girl in the book of Proverbs). She is talking about the creation of the universe – the first of his acts of old. Wisdom says that the Lord always had wisdom, and he used wisdom when he created everything. All we have to do is look at creation to know that this is true. It is very clear that a wise creator made everything.
As a human person Jesus had to grow in wisdom just like you do (read the past two days’ devotions). But Jesus is also the Lord God. That means that he was always been wise forever and ever, from the beginning. Jesus is the Lord that created everything, and Jesus is the wisdom behind everything that was created.
Everything in creation was made by Jesus. Everything in creation was made to image or picture Jesus.
Everything in creation was made by Jesus’ sacrificial love. Everything in creation was made to be a picture of Jesus’ sacrificial love.
When plants drop seeds so more plants can grow, that’s love. When water evaporates so more rain can come, that’s love. When the ocean stops at the beach so that we can play in it, that’s love.
And that’s wisdom.
But Jesus didn’t just make all of creation to look like his love. He BECAME his creation to show us his love on the cross. Jesus became a human, he put on skin and bones, so that he could love us as one of us. Most importantly, so that he could do the most loving thing ever, give his life for us. And now that we have Jesus’ life and wisdom inside of us we can love sacrificially for others too.
Because of Jesus we have been fully loved by God.
With Jesus we can love others sacrificially.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Go outside and look around at nature. Where can you see God’s wisdom at work (even in the winter)? What do you see that is a picture of Jesus’ love?
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, your love is your wisdom. Make me wise and loving like you. Amen.
