Proverbs 23:24. The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; he who fathers a wise son will be glad in him.
Are you a wise son or daughter? Do you make your father and mother glad?
Thankfully for all of us who will not always be righteous, and not always make our parents glad, there was one son who always did. Of course we are talking about Jesus. Jesus is the eternal Son of God. He has always been and always will be God’s Son and God the Son.
He is God. He is the Son of God. Listen to how the book of Hebrews describes Jesus:
Hebrews 1:3. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
Wow. That’s a fancy way of saying that because Jesus is God he could take away our sins. Jesus is powerful and purifying. He is powerful enough to defeat sin by never ever sinning. From the time he came as a baby in a manger until the day he went back up into Heaven, Jesus never sinned.
Jesus was also powerful enough to defeat sin when he rose from the dead. And because he defeated sin he can now purify (make clean) all who trust in him. That means he can take his own righteousness and give it to us, making us righteous too.
Read Proverbs 23:24 again. When we receive Jesus’ righteousness by faith in him, that’s when God has fathered another righteous son or daughter. That’s when God has another wise son or wise daughter. And that’s when God greatly rejoices!
Because of Jesus God rejoices over us.
With Jesus we are a righteous and wise son or daughter of God.
