What is one thing you are certain of?
READ TOGETHER
The Bible says there are many things that we can be certain of. In fact, right here in the book of 1 John there are at least five things that we can be certain of because of Jesus. Here they are:
1 John 5:19-21. 19We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. 20And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. 21Little children, keep yourselves from idols.
1. We can be certain that Satan is real, that he hates God, and that he wants to control us with his ideas: the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. Yikes!
2. We can be certain that Jesus is also real and that he has shown us who God is: the Son of God has come and has given us understanding of him who is true.
3. We can be certain that, no matter what happens, we are connected to God: and we are in him who is true (God) by being in God’s Son, Jesus Christ.
4. We can be certain that we will live forever with God: He [Jesus] is the true God and eternal life.
5. And finally, we can certainly love and trust God: Little children, keep yourselves from idols.
If all of this is true, then why would we want to settle for second best to satisfy our hearts? Why worship anything less than the great God who is the most certain thing in the universe?
Because of Jesus we can certain of our destiny.
With Jesus and his certainty, we can choose to love and trust God above anything else.

PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, you are the only thing that is really certain in life and in death. Thank you for giving me your eternal life so that I can be certain of what will happen to me no matter what. Amen.
