TLIC FAMILY. PROVERBS. DECEMBER 18: CONCEAL.

THINK TOGETHER.

Are you good at keeping secrets?

READ TOGETHER

Proverbs 25:2. It is the glory of God to conceal things…

God is really good at keeping secrets. Are you? Can you keep the Christmas presents you bought a secret? Our proverb today says that part of what makes God so glorious is that he conceals things. He hides things. He keeps things secret.

Did you know that Christmas was one of God’s big secrets? Even before God made Adam and Eve, before they sinned in the Garden of Eden, before Abraham, Moses, Ruth, and David, God knew that he would become a little baby born in a manger to Mary in Bethlehem.

But then God kept that a secret for thousands of years. Sure, he gave hints. Lots of them. He said a baby would be born. He said a baby would be born to a young unmarried mom. He even said that it would happen in Bethlehem. But what God kept secret is that the baby born to save the world would be his only son, Jesus. Jesus, God the Son.

Then when the time was perfect God told his secret to the world. Well, first he told it to shepherds, and then to the world.

Luke 2:10-11. 10And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

I’m sure glad that God told us this secret, aren’t you?

Because of Jesus there is no more secrets with God.

With Jesus we can tell the good news of his birth and not keep it a secret.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Christmas is a great time for secrets. Can you think of a present you got last year that surprised you? That’s how the birth of Jesus was, a surprise! But Jesus isn’t a secret for us to keep; he’s good news for us to share.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, you are not a secret. You came to us so that everyone can know you. Help me to never keep you a secret from others. Amen.
