THINK TOGETHER.
Have you ever see a newborn baby? What could it do for itself?
READ TOGETHER
Proverbs 8:1,4. 1Does not wisdom call? Does not understanding raise her voice? 4“To you, O men, I call, and my cry is to the children of man.”
God’s wisdom is always invitational. Do you know what that means? It means that God wants us to come to him and be wise. His wisdom invites us to come and see and learn. In Proverbs 8 Wisdom is like a woman who is calling out to us, inviting us to follow her.
When Jesus was born the angels appeared to the shepherds and invited them to come and see Jesus. This is what they said:
Luke 2:12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.
Go find wisdom. Go find the baby.
Wisdom is crying. The baby Jesus is crying.
Wisdom is for everyone. Jesus is for everyone.
Christmas is not just about getting presents; it’s about getting wisdom. God’s greatest gift to us is Jesus, and Jesus is God’s wisdom. In order to save us God not only became like us, he became like the weakest of us. The most helpless. The most vulnerable. A baby. And that’s wisdom. How? Because it’s love. Love means helping those who can’t help themselves. The weak. The helpless. The vulnerable.
This Christmas be like the shepherds. Hear wisdom’s call. Hear Jesus’ call. And then go and find him. Look at him. See him in a manger as a baby, weak and helpless. That’s wisdom, because it’s the only way to save you and keep you from becoming more and more selfish. Don’t let Christmas make you selfish. Let it make you wise.
Because of Jesus we can see what God’s wisdom looks like.
With Jesus we can be wise by being weak.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Look at pictures of your children as newborns. In what ways were they helpless? Why would God become helpless like this for us? How is that wise?
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, help me to use Christmas as a chance to see Jesus and not just get presents. I want to be loving not selfish, wise not foolish. Amen.
