THINK TOGETHER
What is the most important thing in your life?
READ TOGETHER
We come now to the last book of the Bible. Revelation. Can you find Revelation in a Bible? Revelation was written by the Apostle John when he had a vision of Heaven and things to come in the future. Revelation is a book that is all about worshiping Jesus. Three times in this book Jesus calls himself the “Alpha and the Omega.” Here they are:
Revelation 1:8. “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Revelation 21:6. And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.
Revelation 22:13. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.
Alpha and Omega are the first and last letters in the Greek alphabet. To say I am the Alpha and the Omega is like saying “I am the A to Z.” I am the beginning and the end. In John’s day Alpha and Omega was a title given to the emperor (king) of Rome. So when Jesus calls himself the Alpha and the Omega he is saying that he himself is the true king, and he deserves to be worshiped. But why worship Jesus?
We worship him because he is the beginning of everything. Not only did he make everything, but also everything is made to reflect his love. Especially us. We were made to be a picture for others of Jesus’ kindness. We also worship him because he is our end. Everything is made not only from him, but also for him. God will make sure that his Son, who made everything, will get everything back.
Will you let Jesus be your Alpha and Omega this year? Your everything? Will you spend time praising Jesus for all he has done for you? I pray you will.
Because of Jesus our life is connected to the beginning and end of all things.
With Jesus we can live with the simple purpose of worshiping God.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Spend some time today as a family simply worshiping Jesus. Be reminded that everything begins and ends with him.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, you are my first and my last. You are my everything. I worship you. Amen.
