TLIC FAMILY. PROVERBS. DECEMBER 26: STUPID.

THINK TOGETHER.

What makes a person stupid?

READ TOGETHER

Proverbs 30:2-3. 2Surely I am too stupid to be a man. I have not the understanding of a man. 3I have not learned wisdom, nor have I knowledge of the Holy One.

There’s only one way to be stupid according to Proverbs. It’s not by being bad in school, or by making mistakes, or by getting answers wrong when asked questions. The only way to be stupid is to not have knowledge of the Holy One. According to God the only stupid people are the ones who refuse to know about him and his Son, Jesus.

Agur, the author of this proverb, is probably being a little too hard on himself. He calls himself stupid because he hasn’t taken the time to learn about God. But he probably knew more about God than most of us. But there was still so much more for him to know. Agur wanted to go up to Heaven and learn all about God. He was sad because he knew that no one could go to Heaven and then come back down to Earth and tell us all about God.

But Jesus started in Heaven and then came down to Earth to tell us all about God. Through Jesus we have more knowledge of the Holy One than ever before. When we know Jesus we know God. When we see Jesus we see God. When we look at the baby Jesus we are looking at what God is really like. Loving. Humble. Willing to do anything for us.

Did you look at Jesus yesterday on Christmas? I hope so. If not, it’s never too late to start seeing Jesus in order to have knowledge of the Holy One.

Don’t be stupid. Know God by knowing Jesus. Make this new year the year of knowing Christ the Lord.

Because of Jesus we can know God.

With Jesus we don’t have to be stupid; we can get to know him and thus know God, the Holy One.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Is there a commitment your family needs to make in order to know Jesus more and thus know God more? Talk about it together.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, I want to know you more this new year. Help me to learn how to know you not just in my brain but in my heart too. Amen.
