TLIC FAMILY. PROVERBS. DECEMBER 27: TRUST.

THINK TOGETHER.

Have you ever made a new year’s resolution? What was it?

READ TOGETHER

Proverbs 3:5-6. 5Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

It’s almost the new year and many people will be making new year’s resolutions. Promises that we make to ourselves about some way that we will do better or try harder in the upcoming year. I will try to exercise more. I will try to read my Bible more. I will try to be nicer to my neighbors. As we move into the new year over these next four days, let’s return to Proverbs 3:5-6 one phrase at a time. Not just as a resolution, but as a prayer for a relationship with God through Jesus.

Phrase 1: Trust in the Lord with all your heart.

What God wants from us more than anything is our trust. He wants us to be able to say, “God, I don’t understand everything you do, but I trust everything you do.” And God wants us to trust him with our whole hearts. He wants every part of us to trust him. He wants us to trust him with every part of our lives. Our home lives. Our church lives. Our school lives. Our friendship lives. Our sports lives.

How do we know we can trust the Lord? By now you should be able to answer this question. The answer is, of course, because God has sent Jesus to us to save our lives. That’s the hardest thing God ever did. God gave his Son to die on the cross for us. To become our sinfulness. God sent his Son, Jesus, who IS God to be separated from God. Something that had never ever happened before and is almost impossible to understand.

If God would do this hardest of things for us, won’t he do everything else for us? YES! You can trust him with all your heart. Even if something bad is happening, you can trust that God is doing what is good, just like he did with the cross.

Because of Jesus we know that God will always do what is good for us.

With Jesus we can trust God in all things.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Make a list of things that might be scary or unknown coming up in the new year. How can you as a family trust God in these things?

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, help me to trust you more each day because I know you always do what is best for us. The cross is my proof. Amen.
