TLIC Family. PROVERBS. JANUARY 17: NO ANSWER.

THINK TOGETHER.

Have you ever been too late to something and missed out?

READ TOGETHER

Proverbs 1:28. Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently but will not find me.

The “me” in this verse is Wisdom. Solomon has made wisdom into a person who is talking to us in these verses. What is wisdom saying? If you reject wisdom over and over again, there will come a time when wisdom won’t be able to help you. It will be too late. I will not answer. You will not find me.

Have you ever ignored wisdom? Have you ever failed to listen to a teacher, a pastor, your mom or your dad? Have you ever rejected their instructions and then later it was too late to get help? Maybe you never practice your instrument or do your homework. Eventually it will be too late to catch up.

Music, and sports, and even grades in school are small compared to other things in life. Things like relationships, or your integrity (do you know what that is?). If you tell lies, and mom and dad wisely tell you to be honest, but you keep on lying, what will happen eventually? It will be too late to tell the truth. Your integrity is harmed for a long, long time. Or if you are mean to others over and over, eventually it may be too late to make friends. Everyone will label you as the bully.

And even more important is what happens to us after we die. Jesus is God’s true Wisdom who says to us “call on me and I will answer, seek me and you will find me.” If we come humbly to Jesus for forgiveness of all our sins, trusting God and his love, then Jesus will always, always, always hear us and share his life with us. But if we keep on rejecting Jesus and his forgiveness and grace, there will come a day when it will be too late. Will you trust him before it is too late? Will you receive his forgiveness before we are judged for our sins?

Because of Jesus we can have God’s wisdom, love, and grace.

With Jesus we don’t have to be stubborn, we can trust God in all things.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Have everybody say something that they have been stubborn about. When you pray together ask God to help free you from stubbornness.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, I don’t want to be stubborn. I want to listen to you before it’s too late. Help me to always listen to you and wise people. Amen.
