TLIC Family. PROVERBS. MAY 28: ABOMINATION.

THINK TOGETHER.

Have you told a lie today?

READ TOGETHER

Proverbs 12:22. Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are his delight.

Lying has been going on since the beginning of time. Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden because they were lied to by the Devil (the serpent). One little lie turned the whole world upside down. Maybe that’s why lying is an abomination to God. The word abomination means that it is disgusting or repulsive to God. He can’t stand lying.

We tend to think that lying is no big deal. We all tell lies all the time. But those lies chip away at love and trust. They destroy our relationships. What would happen if you only told lies to your parents? Your friends? Your teachers? No one would ever listen to you again would they? What if others lied to you all the time? And what if God lied to you? You’d be totally confused and lost in life, right?

Thank God for the truth! Thank God that he is faithful. The word faithful means that God will always tell us the truth, no matter what. And God doesn’t just tell us the truth, he gave us the truth in Jesus. Jesus IS God’s delight and God’s faithfulness to us. The cross of Jesus tells us the two most important truths: 1) We all are so sinful that we can’t save ourselves. 2) We all are so loved that God sent Jesus to save us.

When we believe these two great truths then we can also be truthful. We can reject lying lips. We can stop fibbing all the time. Not because lying gets us in trouble (which it does), but because we want to delight in God instead.

Because of Jesus God delights in us and will always be faithful to us.

With Jesus we can delight in God and tell the truth to him and others.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Make Ephesians 4:15 a family memory verse.

speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, I know I tell lies to keep myself out of trouble or to make myself look good. Help me to trust you instead of trusting in those lies. Amen.
