TLIC Family. PROVERBS. JULY 8: RIGHT.

THINK TOGETHER.

Have you ever done something that you thought would be good, but it turned out to be very bad?

READ TOGETHER

Proverbs 16:25. There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.

This proverb is exactly the same as Proverbs 14:12 (see June 13). Why would Solomon (and God) include the same proverb twice? Well, probably because it is that important. In fact, this proverb describes the basic condition of every person who tries to live without God and his son, Jesus.

There are many examples of the truth of this proverb in the stories of the Bible. Stories of people who thought they were doing right, but it was actually wrong. Do you know any of these Bible stories?

Jacob thought he was doing right when he stole the blessing from his brother Esau, but that was wrong because he didn’t trust God, and lied to his father instead.

King David thought he was doing right when he counted up his big army, but that was wrong because he was proud and disobeyed God’s command.

Jonah thought he was doing right when he prayed that the evil Ninevites would be destroyed, but that was very wrong because God loved the Ninevites too.

Peter thought he was doing right when he defended Jesus in the garden and cut off a soldier’s ear, but that was wrong because he was trying to prevent Jesus from going to the cross.

What about you? What do you do that seems right to you, but might actually be wrong because it goes against what Jesus says, or what Jesus wants you to do?

Jesus is the only person to ever get everything right. Everything that seems right to him is right. We get confused about right and wrong, but not Jesus. That’s why we must always listen to him and follow him. He will always lead to life not death.

Because of Jesus we are headed toward life not death.

With Jesus we can choose what is right without confusion.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Make Proverbs 16:25 a family memory verse.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, I get confused, but you don’t. Keep teaching me right from wrong. Amen.
