THINK TOGETHER.
Do you think God knows everything that you do?
READ TOGETHER
Proverbs 24:12. If you say, “Behold, we did not know this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who keeps watch over your soul know it, and will he not repay man according to his work?
Have you ever tried to play dumb when you got in trouble for doing something wrong? How many times have you tried to say I didn’t know when mom or dad or teacher ask you about something bad that you did? But if you’re honest you did know. You knew exactly what you were doing and why you did it.
The dishonest I didn’t know answer might work with your parents or your teachers, but it never works with God. Why not? Because God knows your heart. He perceives it, Solomon says. He keeps watch over your soul. This means that God knows what is going on inside of you as well as outside of you. Parents and teachers might only see the outside, but God sees your heart and soul. He keeps track of you and everything you do. And he repays us according to our work. Does that sound scary?
If we have Jesus this shouldn’t scare us. When you have Jesus all of his works get credited to you and all of your bad works were put on the cross and punished there forever. This is the best news ever. It should make us glad and makes us free to always tell the truth. If God can see your heart and if he knows your soul and he still loves you because of Jesus, then you don’t ever have to try to talk your way out of trouble, or claim to be ignorant when confronted about something. Just say, “Yes, I did it. I was wrong. I know what I did was wrong and hurtful. Please forgive me.”
Then trust God to help you not do it again.
Because of Jesus all our works are his works, and his credit is ours.
With Jesus we can always tell the truth without fear.

PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, sometimes I am tempted to lie and say I didn’t know what I was doing when I really did. Help me to trust your love for me and tell the truth even when I’m afraid. Amen.
