TLIC Family. NOVEMBER 8: PLENTY.

THINK TOGETHER.

Would you want to live on a farm? Why or why not?

READ TOGETHER

Proverbs 28:19. Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits will have plenty of poverty.

There is a general rule in life that says if you work hard you get rewarded for that hard work. A farmer who works hard on his land gets the reward of bread. Have you seen this rule play out in your own life? Have you ever worked hard at something and been rewarded for it?

Of course, because we live in a sinful world, the rules don’t always happen the way they are supposed to. You can work hard and not be rewarded for it. A farmer can work really hard in his fields and then insects, cold, hail, fire, or drought might destroy all his crops. No reward. No bread.

The opposite is also true. There are some people who follow worthless pursuits, but they are still rich. Sometimes even wicked people become rich and powerful. But not forever. God knows. And one day, God will judge all that we have done on Earth as to whether it was worthless or not.

That’s why we all need Jesus. When you have Jesus in your heart, God only judges what Jesus has done through you, and none of that is worthless, is it? It’s all very good. When you have Jesus in your heart, all his hard work in your life is rewarded with the bread of life. He plants his life, his love, his joy, his peace in your heart, and then you are rewarded as those things grow in us, making us like him.

Because of Jesus we have his life in us, the bread of life.

With Jesus we don’t have to do worthless things. We can let him live his worthy life through us.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

If you have time visit a farm in your area. Or look at some photos or videos of farm life. Help your children to see that what we plant is what we get back as a reward. This is true with spiritual things too. If we let Jesus plant his joy and peace in our hearts, then we will be rewarded with joy and peace.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, live your life through me and let your reward be my reward by your grace. Amen.
