THINK TOGETHER.
Do you believe the Bible is true?
READ TOGETHER
Proverbs 30:5. Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
God’s word is always true. It has to be or we have a bad God. If God tells us to know him, fear him, love him, trust him, and obey him, but then he doesn’t tell us the truth about himself and what he wants, well, then we would have a pretty bad God wouldn’t we? Instead we have a God who says fear me, and then gives us the Bible to teach us all about himself and how to fear him.
The Bible is true. It’s not full of mistakes, or fairy tales, or even people’s opinions. It is full of the very words of God. God the Holy Spirit used different people to write the Bible, so the books of the Bible are very different. But because the Holy Spirit wrote it through those people, the Bible is always trustworthy and reliable.
Agur says that the word of God proves true. To prove the Bible means to test it. The Bible might not seem true at first, but the more we look at it, listen to it, study it, and live it, the more we will find that yep, it was true all along, just like God said. The more we obey the Bible, and do what it says, the more we will see that God’s way works better than every other way.
Most importantly, we must prove that the gospel is true. We must put Jesus’ words to the test. Can we trust him? Did he tell the truth when he said that he would die on the cross for us? Was he lying when he said he would come back to life? No and no. So is he telling the truth when he says that he will give us eternal life if we trust in him? What do you think?
Because of Jesus we know that we can trust all of God’s word.
With Jesus we can prove the Bible to be true as we trust and obey it.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Look for some good apologetics resources that can help kids to learn that they can trust the Bible. When reading the Bible with your children always emphasize that the story you are reading is true (as opposed to the other books and movies they may be reading or watching).
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, I know I can trust you and the Bible. Help me to run to your word as my refuge in times of trouble and find your love waiting there for me. Amen.
