TLIC Family. PROVERBS. DECEMBER 9: HER.

THINK TOGETHER.

Does your mom work hard? In what ways?

READ TOGETHER

Proverbs 31:27-28. 27She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. 28Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:

Moms work hard, don’t they? The mom being described in this Proverb sure did.

  • Verse 13 – she made clothes for her family.
  • Verse 14 – she went grocery shopping.
  • Verse 15 – she got up early and cooked breakfast.
  • Verse 16 and 24 – she worked to make money for the family.
  • Verse 20 – she helped other people too.
  • Verse 24 – she taught her kids about wisdom.
  • Verse 27 – she made the house a nice place for everyone.

Notice how this mom’s family responded to her. Her children rise up and call her blessed. Her husband praises her. Does that happen in your home? Do you praise mom and say thank you for everything she does for you? I hope so.

In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul praised a mom and a grandmom, Eunice and Lois. They were Timothy’s mother and grandmother.

2 Timothy 1:5. I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice.

Timothy was a young man who became a pastor. Timothy had sincere, or real, faith in Jesus. That faith was taught to him by his mom and grandmom. The most important thing our mom, dad, or grandparents can do is teach us about Jesus.

Who is teaching you to work hard? Your mom? Your dad? Are you learning? Who is teaching you about faith in Jesus? Your mom? Your dad? Are you listening?

Because of Jesus we can have faith in God and see faith in God in our moms and dads.

With Jesus we can learn about hard work and faith from our moms and dads.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, thank you for my mom who works hard and teaches me about you. Help me remember to be thankful and to listen to her too. Amen.
