TLIC Family. PROVERBS. DECEMBER 16: TRUST.

THINK TOGETHER.

What is your favorite thing about Christmas?

READ TOGETHER

Proverbs 3:5. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.

We might say that Proverbs 3:5 is not only the summary of the whole book of Proverbs but really it is the summary of the whole Bible. The Bible was written so that we might learn to trust in the Lord with all of our hearts. Jesus came to Earth to save us so that we would be able to trust in the Lord with all of our hearts. Really the whole reason we exist is to trust in the Lord with all of our hearts. God wants us to trust him more than he wants anything else.

In the Christmas story, Mary was someone who trusted God with her whole heart. When the angel told Mary that she would be the mother of Jesus she believed it. She didn’t understand it all, but she did trust it. Why? Because she trusted God. Listen to how her cousin Elizabeth described Mary here in Luke’s gospel:

Luke 1:45. blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.

Mary was blessed because she believed God. She trusted God. She had faith in God. Do you?

Does the Christmas story help your faith in God? Does the story of Jesus coming to Earth as a baby to save us make you want to trust God more? Or are you too busy thinking about presents, and cookies, funny Christmas movies, or whatever your favorite thing about Christmas is?

Presents, cookies, and movies are great. But God is so much greater. Trust him to save you. Trust him to make your heart feel peace and joy. Christmas will come and go. But Christ will last forever.

Because of Jesus we have God’s wisdom with us all the time.

With Jesus we can trust God with our whole heart.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Make and eat some Christmas cookies. Talk about how cookies and the other things we do at Christmas come and go. We can’t trust them to make us happy. Only Jesus lasts forever and never fails.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, I want to trust you with my whole heart. Help me! Amen.
