TLIC Family. PROVERBS. DECEMBER 30: GREATER.

THINK TOGETHER.

What is the greatest thing you’ve ever done?

READ TOGETHER

Luke 11:31. The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.

In Luke 11:31, Jesus is talking about how the Queen of Sheba, an old nation in Africa (do you know where Africa is?), came to visit Solomon in order to see all of his amazing treasures and hear all of his amazing wisdom. But then Jesus says this: Behold something greater than Solomon is here.

Or, SOMEONE greater than Solomon is here.

Who is Jesus talking about? Who is greater and wiser than Solomon?

Himself! Jesus is talking about himself. He’s saying I’m even wiser than Solomon.

You might remember that Solomon started out wise but ended as a fool. He stopped trusting God and began to trust in himself instead. Everything God told him NOT to do, he did anyway. But Jesus never disobeyed. He started wise and ended wise. He didn’t raise taxes, or enslave people like Solomon did. Jesus set people free from their sin. Solomon told us to help the poor (something he himself didn’t do very well), but Jesus became poor for us. Solomon told us that God would punish the wicked, but Jesus took our punishment for us.

Jesus is greater!

Jesus is wiser!

Jesus is wisdom.

Because of Jesus we have the greatest wisdom ever.

With Jesus we can be even wiser than Solomon.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Turn the word G.R.E.A.T.E.R. into an acrostic. Can your family think of a word for each letter that describes how great Jesus is?

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, you are the greatest person ever. Thank you for coming to us and giving us the greatest wisdom ever too. Amen.
