TLIC Family. PROVERBS. DECEMBER 31: TRUST.

THINK TOGETHER.

Have you ever made a new year’s resolution? What was it?

READ TOGETHER

Proverbs 3:5-6. 5Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Tomorrow is the new year and many people will be making new year’s resolutions. Promises that we make to ourselves about some way that we will do better or try harder in the upcoming year. I will try to exercise more. I will try to read my Bible more. I will try to be nicer to my neighbors. But way more important than making resolutions or promises to ourselves or to God, is trusting the promises that God has made to us. We shouldn’t trust ourselves; we should trust God!

Trust in the Lord with all your heart – God wants our trust. And God has earned our trust through the cross of Jesus. If God would send his only Son to die for us, then we can definitely trust him.

do not lean on your own understanding – counting on what we can understand is a big mistake. One thing we can really know for sure is that God loves us. How do we know? Again, because of the cross of Jesus.

In all your ways acknowledge him – Or, in everything you do, know him. This new year try to be aware that God is always with you. Try to let everything you do be a chance to know Jesus better.

he will make straight your paths – we all need God to guide us through life. We need the gospel to be our map for life. The gospel (good news) says that we are saved by Jesus, not by the good works that we do, but simply by his grace and forgiveness. We don’t earn God’s love and kindness; we simply receive it. When we forget this, our path gets crooked, not straight. But when we remember that we are saved by grace as a free gift, then we will go through life on the path of Jesus.

Because of Jesus we know God loves us and that we can always trust him.

With Jesus we can walk on the clear path of God’s grace.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Talk about any New Year’s resolutions that anyone wants to make. What is something that you can do as a family to trust God more and more this new year?

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, help me to trust you more each day because I know you always do what is best for us. The cross is my proof. Amen.
