TLIC Family. 100 DAYS WITH JESUS. DAY 25: THE DAY JESUS BROUGHT A DEAD GIRL BACK TO LIFE.

THINK TOGETHER.

Have you ever been really sick? Did you ask Jesus to help you?

READ TOGETHER.

Luke 8:40-42. 40Now when Jesus returned, the crowd welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him. 41And there came a man named Jairus, who was a ruler of the synagogue. And falling at Jesus’ feet, he implored him to come to his house, 42for he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying.

What do you think Jesus is going to do? A man comes to Jesus and tells him that his daughter is dying. What will Jesus do next? Hopefully, by now you know. Yep, Jesus is going to go help this girl.

Notice that the Bible says that this twelve-year-old girl was dying. She was not dead yet. So there was still hope. If we hurry, we can get Jesus there in time to save her before she dies.

But something happened as Jesus was on his way to the girl’s house. A sick woman in the crowd reached out and grabbed Jesus’ robe, hoping that she too might be healed. Here’s how Luke describes what happened next:

Luke 8:46-48. 46Jesus said, “Someone touched me, for I perceive that power has gone out from me.” 47And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. 48And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.”

Wow! Jesus healed this woman without even really thinking about it. The power of God just went out of him and into the woman and healed her. Why? Because she had faith. That’s very cool.

But what wasn’t cool is that while Jesus paused to talk to this woman, the girl, Jairus’ daughter, died.

Luke 8:49-50. 49While he was still speaking, someone from the ruler’s house came and said, “Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the Teacher any more.” 50But Jesus on hearing this answered him, “Do not fear; only believe, and she will be well.”

A few days ago we read about how Jesus brought a dead boy back to life. Do you think he can do that again, with a girl? Or does Jesus only help boys? That’s right Jesus’ love is for everyone, both girls and boys.

Jesus raised that twelve-year-old girl back to life that day. Why? Because Jesus cares about us and wants everyone to be happy and well. But he also did it to show us that we all need to be raised to life. We all have the sickness of sin inside of us and we are dying from it. Our selfishness is killing us on the inside. But Jesus came to bring us back to life, not just physically, but spiritually. When we trust in his love and forgiveness by faith (like the sick woman) our hearts are healed so that we don’t have to choose selfishness anymore. That’s good news!

Because of Jesus we can be raised to life from the sickness of sin.

With Jesus we don’t have to choose selfishness anymore.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Is there someone you know that is sick? Plan to do something to help them (visit, make a meal, take flowers). You can’t heal their sickness but you can help them to be encouraged and keep trusting Jesus.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, I believe you can bring me back to life from the sickness of my sin. Amen.
