TLIC Family. 100 SAYS WITH JESUS. DAY 30: THE DAY JESUS SENT OUT THE DISCIPLES.

THINK TOGETHER.

Have you ever been sent to do something for someone? Maybe to go get something for them, or sent to do a chore for someone in need?

READ TOGETHER.

Luke 9:1-2. 1And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, 2and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.

Yesterday we talked about Jesus’ kingdom. What kind of kingdom does Jesus have? Well one way to know about Jesus’ kingdom is to see what Jesus told his 12 Disciples when he sent them out to proclaim his kingdom.

What did Jesus tell the 12 to do?

What power did they have?

That’s right, they had power to cast out demons. Do you know what a demon is? A demon is a bad angel that hates God and tries to hurt God by hurting people. Demons are very mean and very powerful.

But Jesus is way more powerful. So powerful that he can tell a demon to do something and it has to obey. And Jesus even gave that same power to his 12 Disciples. Whatever they told a demon to do, the demon had to do it.

When we trust in Jesus we don’t have to worry about demons. Jesus is way stronger than any demon and he won’t ever let someone who has faith in him be hurt by a demon. Not now, not ever.

What else could the 12 Disciples do?

They could cure diseases. People who had been sick for a long time could be made well by the Disciples. We already read stories of Jesus healing people, but now the power of Jesus is spreading out across the land through the Disciples.

Jesus’ kingdom was very different from the other kingdoms of the world. The kings of the earth usually tried to overpower other people and make them into servants. But not Jesus. Jesus freed people and he served them. Jesus is a servant-king. He does things for us; he doesn’t just expect us to do things for him. Jesus didn’t just help people with demons and diseases; he made them completely better. Why? So that they could then help others.

Has Jesus just helped you a little bit, or has he made you completely better? When it comes to our inside life, Jesus makes us completely better. Completely forgiven. Completely free from our sins and completely free to obey him and help others.

Because of Jesus we are completely new.

With Jesus we can help others like the 12 Disciples did.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Talk about how Jesus has helped us so that we can help others. Make a family plan to help someone this week.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, you sent out the 12 Disciples to help others and you have sent me out to help others too. Amen.
