THINK TOGETHER.
Is there anything that you are worried about?
READ TOGETHER.
Matthew 6:25-30. 25“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 28And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
Everybody worries. Since the beginning of time people have worried about things. Big things and small things. What were the people in today’s Bible passage worried about?
That’s right, they were worried about food and clothing. Do you ever worry about those things? Do you ever worry that you won’t have any food, or that you won’t have clothes to wear? I hope not. Of course there are boys and girls all over the world that DO worry about these things.
Maybe there’s other things that you worry about. Maybe you worry about feeling safe, or about whether or not other people will like you. Instead of worrying about food and clothes, you might worry about popularity, or school work, or getting sick.
When Jesus talks about worry he tells us that our worry is sometimes connected to our faith in God. Who does God love more? The birds or you? The flowers or you?
The answer is YOU!
So if God feeds the birds and clothes the flowers, won’t he also take care of you? Yes, he will. Always. God loves you very much and will always take care of you.
And the most important way that God takes care of us is not by giving us food and clothes for our bodies. Yes, those are very important. But most important is how God takes care of our souls. How does he take care of our souls? By offering us forgiveness for our sins and the opportunity trust Jesus as our Savior.
When we trust in Jesus, his love becomes the spiritual food and the spiritual clothes for our souls. When we know that God loves us, no matter what, then we can stop worrying about everything else.
Because of Jesus we will always be taken care of by God.
With Jesus we can always trust God’s love for us.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Go outside and spend some time looking at the birds and the flowers. Do the birds and flowers seem worried at all? In what ways does God take care of them? In what ways does God take care of us.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, I know that you love me more than the birds and the flowers. Help me to trust you like they do. Amen.
