THINK TOGETHER.
Have you ever thought your sibling(s) are crazy?
READ TOGETHER.
Mark 3:20-21. 20Then he went home, and the crowd gathered again, so that they could not even eat. 21And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for they were saying, “He is out of his mind.”
Can you imagine thinking that Jesus is crazy? Well, his own family did. Mark says that Jesus’ family tried to grab him and take him away because they thought he was out of his mind.
Why did they think this?
Well, Mark doesn’t really tell us does he? Maybe they were worried about Jesus because he thought he was God’s Son, the Messiah. It doesn’t seem like Jesus’ brothers and sisters believed in him the way the Twelve Disciples did. It must have been really hard to believe that your big brother was God, and your king.
Maybe they were worried that Jesus’ actions would reflect poorly on them, and get them all into trouble. Jesus is making some people very angry, especially people with power. So it is likely that his family didn’t want the powerful leaders to come and arrest his whole family.
Whatever the case may be, Jesus’ family did not support him very well. There may come a time when people think that you are crazy, not for believing that you are God, but for believing in God at all. And especially for believing that Jesus is God. Many people do not believe that Jesus was really the Son of God who came to save us from our sins on the cross. If you believe that, AND if you try to live a life of obedience to Jesus, then, sadly, there may be many people that think that you are out of your mind too.
You won’t cheat on your homework – you’re out of your mind.
You don’t lie to your parents – you’re out of your mind.
You don’t curse and gossip and talk nasty – you’re out of your mind.
You go to church and worship Jesus – you’re out of your mind.
Eventually, as you grow up in your faith, you will have to decide if you care about what other people think and say about you. Hopefully, your family won’t ever think you’re crazy for trusting in Jesus, but other people might. Friends. Teammates. Classmates. Co-workers. Neighbors.
Remember, what other people think of you is not nearly as important as what they think about Jesus. Jesus was not and is not crazy. He’s actually the greatest person who ever lived. He’s God! And the only thing he’s crazy about is you.
Because of Jesus we know that God is real and worth believing in.
With Jesus we don’t have to worry about what other people say about us.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Make Romans 10:11 a family memory verse. What promise is made to us in this verse?
PRAY TOGETHER
Father, I want to trust in Jesus more and more, even if others think I’m crazy. Keep giving me the courage to trust you. Amen.
