TLIC Family. 100 DAYS WITH JESUS. DAY 59: THE DAY JESUS TOLD US ABOUT GUARDIAN ANGELS.

THINK TOGETHER.

Have you ever heard of guardian angels?

READ TOGETHER.

Matthew 18:10. “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.”

Many Christians believe in guardian angels – a specific angel assigned to protect each Christian or each child, or little one. This verse, Matthew 18:10, is the verse that seems to be teaching the idea of guardian angels.

Sometimes people think that only little children have guardian angels because Jesus said little ones. But Jesus uses the phrase little ones to mean any Christian. Why does Jesus call all Christians children? Because in order to be a Christian, he says, you have to become like a child. You have to be humble and needy before you will ask God to save you.

The cool thing that Jesus says is their angels. This means that each Christian has some number of angels assigned to them in Heaven. Here’s how King David described it in the Psalms:

Psalm 91:11. He will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.

And do you remember the story of Daniel in the lion’s den? Daniel said that God sent an angel to shut the mouths of the lions so that they would not harm him.

Then there’s this verse in the New Testament book of Hebrews:

Hebrews 1:14. Are they (the angels) not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?

God sends all the angles out, all the time, to help all the Christians – those who will inherit salvation.

This is a very awesome and comforting thought isn’t it? But it is not the big idea of what Jesus said. The big idea isn’t that angels help us, it’s that angels help others. Jesus is teaching us how to treat one another. He is reminding us that every single Christian has dignity and worth. If the angels of heaven exist to serve that person, then why on earth would we try to be mean to that person? God made them. Jesus died for them. And the angels serve them. So how should we treat them? That’s right, we must treat each other with the same respect that the angels do.

Jesus loves and serves us and his angels do too! Let’s be like the angels – live in front of God and serve others with dignity and respect.

Because of Jesus all the angels in Heaven serve us.

With Jesus we can serve each other too, like the angels do.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Draw and color pictures of yourselves but include angels in the picture too. Hang your pictures up to remind you that God’s angels are watching over you all the time.

PRAY TOGETHER

Father, thank you for your constant love and protection over me. Amen.
