TLIC Family. 100 DAYS WITH JESUS. DAY 68: THE DAY JESUS PREDICTED HIS DEATH ON THE CROSS (AGAIN).

THINK TOGETHER.

What would you do if you knew something bad was going to happen to you?

READ TOGETHER.

Mark 10:32-34. 32And they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them. And they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And taking the twelve again, he began to tell them what was to happen to him, 33saying, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles. 34And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise.”

Jesus and the Disciples are on their way to Jerusalem. That’s where the Temple is. That’s where all the people go to celebrate the great feasts and to worship God. But for Jesus, Jerusalem won’t be a place of celebration. It will be a place of sadness and suffering. What does Jesus say will happen to him in Jerusalem?

He will be delivered over (arrested) to the religious leaders who hate him.

He will be accused of crimes he did not commit and then condemned (found guilty) to death.

He will be mocked and spit on.

He will be flogged (beaten and whipped).

He will be killed on the cross.

If Jesus knows that all of these terrible things are going to happen to him in Jerusalem, then why would he still be going to Jerusalem? Do you know why?

That’s right. Jesus HAS to go to Jerusalem to suffer and die if we are going to be saved from our sin. Jesus will let himself go through these terrible things in order to pay the penalty for our sins on the cross.

We deserve to be delivered over to God.

We deserve to be accused and condemned for our sins against God and each other.

We deserve to be shamed.

We deserve to be punished.

We deserve to be on that cross.

Jesus took what we deserve so that we can receive what he earned – being right with God and free from sin’s power to control us. How is that possible? Because after three days Jesus arose from the dead. And when he did, he defeated sin, guilt, and shame once and for all.

Because of Jesus we don’t have to get what we deserve – guilt and death.

With Jesus we can share his resurrected life that defeats sin and death.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Make 2 Corinthians 5:21 a memory verse for your family.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, thank you for taking my place on the cross and for giving me your resurrected life. Amen.
