THINK TOGETHER.
Have you ever been inside a mansion? Would you want to live in a mansion?
READ TOGETHER.
John 14:1-3. 1“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
These are some of the most loved and most comforting words that Jesus ever spoke. Remember it is the night before Jesus will be arrested and put on the cross to die. It’s about to be a scary night, full of worry and tension. Jesus is trying to bring peace and comfort to his best friends – Let not your hearts be troubled.
Why not? Isn’t there lots to be troubled about in this life?
Because Jesus is going to go to Heaven and prepare a room in God’s house, his mansion.
I remember, when I was in high school in New Jersey, being invited to the house of a friend of a friend. When we got to the house it was huge! It was a mansion. I was told that it had over 50 rooms in it. Several floors, each with its own living room. Tons of bedrooms. At 16 years old, it was the coolest house I had ever been in. I’ve also been in giant mansion-castles in England and Ireland. I remember one castle that had been added on to over the centuries. It kept getting bigger and bigger, more and more rooms were built until the castle was (and is) massive.
Jesus is saying that this is what God’s house is like. Jesus is adding more and more rooms to God’s mansion – in my Father’s house are many rooms. And Jesus is going to return to earth one day and take us to our room in God’s mansion. Wow!
In all the mansions I’ve been in, I’ve never known the owner. I didn’t know the family that lived in that mansion in New Jersey. And I didn’t know the Irish royalty that lived in that massive Kilkeny Castle. But I do know Jesus. And I know God. Do you?
That’s what makes our future so great, not the mansion, but the owner of the mansion. Being with God and Jesus forever, now that’s Heaven. Even if we had to live in a tiny tent together it would be worth it. But the truth is that when we live with Jesus forever, everything that is his he will share with us. The whole universe. All of Heaven and all of Earth. I can’t wait to get there, can you?
Because of Jesus we will live in the mansion of God forever.
With Jesus we can be sure that he will return for us one day.
