TLIC Family. 100 DAYS WITH JESUS. DAY 98: THE DAY JESUS COMMISSIONED HIS DISCIPLES.

THINK TOGETHER.

Are you a disciple? Why or why not?

READ TOGETHER.

Matthew 28:16-20. 16Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

This passage is known as the Great Commission. Have you ever heard of the Great Commission? To be commissioned is to be set aside for a specific purpose and then sent out to accomplish that purpose. An artist might be commissioned to create a great work of art. Then they are given everything they need to create their masterpiece. Someone in the Army will be commissioned to be an officer. They are given the authority they need to lead other men and women in the Army.

After rising from the dead, Jesus commissioned his disciples. What did Jesus commission his disciples to do? That’s right, make disciples. Or we might say “make more disciples.” The eleven disciples were NOT the only disciples, were they? They made disciples, who made disciples, who made disciples, who made disciples…all the way through history to YOU!

You see, this Great Commission isn’t just for the Eleven. It is also for you and for me. When we trust in Jesus to save us, he not only forgives and takes away our sin, he also commissions us as his disciples to go make more disciples. And just like an artist who is given everything they need to make their masterpiece, we have been given everything we need to tell others about Jesus. And just like the Army officer who is given power and authority to lead other people, we are given the authority of Jesus to lead other people to him.

This Great Commission is one of the most important commands from Jesus in the Bible. Jesus wants everyone on Earth to follow him, to love him and each other, to trust him as their Savior so that they can live with God in Heaven. The amazing thing is that Jesus uses us to make this happen.

As we GO through our life we will meet all kinds of people. People that we can get to know. People that we can talk to about Jesus. People that need to know how much he loves them and wants to save them, just like he saved you. And as we GO, here is the greatest promise ever – behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. Jesus is always with us. Wherever we go. Whatever we do. He never, ever leaves us alone. He gives us everything we need in himself. Love. Joy. Peace. Power. All ours with Jesus!

Because of Jesus we are commissioned to tell others about him.

With Jesus we can make disciples.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Look at your church’s website together. Point out all the ways that your church makes disciples. Talk about ways that you as a family can “go and make disciples.”

PRAY TOGETHER

Father, somebody told me about Jesus and now I am saved! Help me to do the same thing as I get to know people and care about them. I know Jesus is always with me. Amen.
