THINK TOGETHER.
Do you look forward to Jesus coming back to Earth?
READ TOGETHER.
Acts 1:9-11. 9And when [Jesus] had said these things, as [the Disciples] were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. 10And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, 11and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”
On day 99, we talked about Jesus’ ascension into Heaven. Right now, at this very moment, Jesus is in Heaven, seated on the throne of the universe, ruling over all creation. But Jesus isn’t staying in Heaven forever. Jesus is going to return to us here on Earth – Jesus will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.
This is one of the great promises that Christians trust in, that Jesus will return for us. Before he died on the cross, Jesus said that he would go away, but then he promised that one day, he would return.
John 14:1-3. 1Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
Right now, Jesus isn’t with us physically. He’s in Heaven preparing a place for us to live with him forever. But remember, Jesus didn’t leave us alone down here on Earth. He sent the Holy Spirit to live inside of us until he returns. And that day is coming! Jesus will come back to gather us up to live with him forever, not in Heaven in the sky, but right here on Earth. A New Earth.
A new earth? That’s right. The Bible says that one day Jesus will fix all of creation including the whole Earth. Then the place that Jesus has built for us, it’s called the New Jerusalem, will come down from Heaven and it will be on the New Earth. Jesus will live with us in that new city on the New Earth forever!
Revelation 21:1-4. 1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
No more tears. No more crying. No more pain. No more dying. Everything will be made perfect for us by our perfect God who loves us perfectly.
Because of Jesus we will live with God forever on the New Earth.
With Jesus we know that everything will be made perfect one day.
