THINK TOGETHER.
Have you ever felt out of breath, or needed help breathing? How did that make you feel?
READ TOGETHER.
Genesis 2:7. Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.
As we keep going through the Bible, one of the things that we will see about the Holy Spirit is that he is always associated with air or breathing. The Old Testament was written in the Hebrew language, and in the Hebrew language the word for spirit and the word for wind are the same word. The New Testament was written in the Greek language, and in the Greek language the word for spirit and the word for breath are the same word.
In today’s verse, it says that God made Adam out of the dust of the ground, the dirt. Then what happened? How did Adam come alive? God breathed into Adam’s nose, his nostrils, the breath of life.
I’m sure you know that without air we cannot live. Without breathing we will pass out and even die. This basic fact points to an even deeper truth – without God’s breath of life inside of us we would not be alive. And God’s breath of life comes from the Holy Spirit. Look at how the book of Job says it:
Job 33:4. For the Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Job 32:8. But there is a spirit within people, the breath of the Almighty within them, that makes them intelligent.
Never, ever forget that you were made by God. You were created by the Holy Spirit. He made you, he loves you, he knows you, and he is giving you air to breath every single day.
And never, ever forget that you have a spirit, just like God does. Job says there is a spirit within people. That includes you. You have a spirit! Your spirit is what makes you alive. It’s what makes you think, feel, and make choices.
The good news is that when you trust in Jesus and accept his gift of eternal life, you then receive the Holy Spirit to live inside of you IN YOUR SPIRIT. If you are a Christian, you have a human spirit and the Holy Spirit. You are alive, and you are alive in Christ. And if you are alive in Christ, then you will never be separated from God. Not ever.
Because of the Holy Spirit we are alive.
With the Holy Spirit we are alive in Christ – alive forever!

See who can hold their breath the longest? Just like you need air to breathe, you need the Holy Spirit to live forever with God. How do we get the Holy Spirit? By trusting in Jesus.
PRAY TOGETHER
Father, you put breath in my body and the Holy Spirit into my spirit. I don’t understand everything that means yet, but I know you love me and want to be with me. Amen.
