TLIC Family. 40 DAYS WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT. DAY 13: THE DAY(S) THE HOLY SPIRIT WROTE THE BIBLE.

THINK TOGETHER.

Who do you think wrote the Bible?

READ TOGETHER.

2 Peter 1:20-21. 20Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, 21or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.

Over the last few days, we have looked at parts of the Bible written by different prophets. David, Isaiah, Ezekiel, Zechariah. These men were all filled with the Holy Spirit and then they spoke and wrote down the words of God.

Can you name any other prophets in the Bible?

Remember, a prophet is simply someone who speaks God’s words to God’s people. There were hundreds of prophets in the Bible times. Men prophets and women prophets too. Not every prophet’s words were written down and put into the Bible, but lots were. In fact, there are around 40 prophets who wrote parts of the Bible.

From Moses to Malachi to Matthew, no prophet ever just made up whatever they wanted to say and write. How does Peter say it in today’s verse? No prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding. None of the prophets who wrote the Bible did it by themselves. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.

This is what makes the Bible so special, each author of the Bible wrote in their own way, with their own style, and from their own special time and place. But, at the same time, each author was moved by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit guided each author of the Bible so that they wrote exactly what God wanted them to write – the story of God and his salvation through Jesus.

There is no other book like the Bible. The Bible was written by 40 authors, on three different continents, over the course of one thousand five hundred years. And miraculously, everything in your Bible agrees with everything else in your Bible. It has never been proven wrong, it contains no lies or mistakes, and it has been changing lives for thousands of years.

The Bible is God’s word. It was written by the Holy Spirit who filled the men who wrote it. And now, for those who have trusted in Jesus and have the Holy Spirit living in us, filling us, we are able to read the Bible and understand what God is saying. Yes, some parts of the Bible are still hard to understand, but at the same time we can read about God’s love for us in Jesus and know that we need him to save us from our sins. We can read the bible and learn about how to have faith in Jesus. And we can look into God’s word to know how to live and love like Jesus as we grow up into him.

Because of the Holy Spirit we have the Bible.

With the Holy Spirit we can read and understand the Bible.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Make 2 Timothy 3:16 a family memory verse. Talk about what the word “inspiration” means (God breathed). The scripture is all from the breath of God, by the Holy Spirit.

PRAY TOGETHER

Father, help me to love and appreciate the Bible for what it is – your words written down for me, because you love me. Amen.
