THINK TOGETHER.
What is something you needed help with recently?
READ TOGETHER.
John 15:26. “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.
In this verse Jesus gives the Holy Spirit a title: The Helper.
I think that’s a great name for the Holy Spirit, don’t you? The Holy Spirit is our greatest helper. Can you think of ways that the Holy Spirit helps us?
The Holy Spirit helps us pray.
The Holy Spirit helps us know right from wrong.
The Holy Spirit helps us feel encouraged when we are sad.
The Holy Spirit helps us to be strong and courageous when we are afraid.
The Holy Spirit helps us by giving us gifts and abilities like serving, sharing, and helping others.
The Holy Spirit helps us by filling us up with God’s love so that we can love others.
The Holy Spirit helps us to understand what the Bible means.
The Holy Spirit changes us slowly into the likeness of Jesus.
How does the Holy Spirit do all of these things? By bearing witness about Jesus. What does that mean? It means that the Holy Spirit is telling the world about Jesus. It means that the Holy Spirit is constantly reminding us and pointing us back to Jesus as our Savior and our King.
The Holy Spirit doesn’t want us to think about the Holy Spirit, he wants us to think about Jesus. The Holy Spirit doesn’t want us to put all our faith in the Holy Spirit, he wants us to put all our faith in Jesus.
The Holy Spirit is all about Jesus!
Whenever you think about Jesus, trust Jesus, love Jesus, and love like Jesus, that’s the Holy Spirit at work in you. When you trusted in Jesus to take away your sins, that was the Holy Spirit. When you believe that Jesus loves you, that’s the Holy Spirit. When you act like Jesus, that’s the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is our Helper. Our Helper for knowing, trusting, and loving Jesus.
Because of the Holy Spirit the world can know about Jesus.
With the Holy Spirit we have all the help we need for trusting Jesus.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Go outside and look at the wind or breeze. The wind itself can’t be seen, but the effects of the wind are seen (trees swaying, leaves blowing, flags moving). Talk about how the Spirit is invisible in us but we should be able to see the effects – being more like Jesus.
PRAY TOGETHER
Holy Spirit, help me to always focus on Jesus as my Savior and King. Amen.
