THINK TOGETHER.
Who tells you about Jesus? Do you think they are filled with the Holy Spirit?
READ TOGETHER.
Acts 4:8-12. 8Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers and elders of our people, 9are we being questioned today because we’ve done a good deed for a crippled man? Do you want to know how he was healed? 10Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the man you crucified but whom God raised from the dead. 11For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says, ‘The stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.’ 12There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”
Do you remember who Peter was? That’s right, Peter was one of Jesus’ disciples. We might even say that he was the leader of the 12 Disciples, especially after Jesus went back up into Heaven. On Day 24 we saw that Peter and all the disciples received the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. Ever since then, they have all been preaching and healing people in Jerusalem.
In Acts 3, Peter and John healed a crippled man at the temple and then they preached the gospel to everyone who was standing there.
In Acts 4, the religious leaders come to arrest Peter and John for healing and preaching. Acts 4:8-12 is Peter’s response to the religious leaders. Notice that Peter is filled with the Holy Spirit. But when Peter is filled with the Holy Spirit who does he talk about?
Himself? No.
The Holy Spirit? No.
Jesus? Yes!
The Holy Spirit in you will always want to talk about Jesus. Not just about Jesus who did nice things while he was on Earth, but the Jesus who is our salvation. The Holy Spirit will always want to say what he said that day through Peter – There is salvation in no one else [but Jesus]! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.
Do you believe that Jesus is the only one who can save you from your sin? If you do, it’s because of the Holy Spirit.
Do you believe that you can share the good news of Jesus like Peter did that day? If you do, that too is because of the Holy Spirit.
Because of the Holy Spirit we can be saved by Jesus.
With the Holy Spirit we can tell others about the salvation of Jesus.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Find some balloons and write JESUS on them. Blow up the balloons together. Talk about how the Holy Spirit is like the air in the balloon. You can’t see the air, but you can see the name Jesus on the balloon. How are we like the balloon? When the Spirit fills us we make Jesus known to everyone!
PRAY TOGETHER
Father, if I’m filled with the Holy Spirit then I know he will help me to talk about Jesus. Please give me courage like Peter to let others know that they can trust Jesus too. Amen.
