TLIC Family. 40 DAYS WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT. DAY 31: THE DAY THE HOLY SPIRIT SHARED THE GOSPEL.

THINK TOGETHER.

Do you know what a conviction is? What convictions do you have?

READ TOGETHER.

1 Thessalonians 1:5. because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction (NIV).

On Day 29, we read about how the Holy Spirit sent out the first missionaries. But the Holy Spirit didn’t just send those missionaries on their way all alone. He went with them. That’s exactly what Paul is saying to the Thessalonians in today’s verse.

Thessalonica is a city in Greece. Do you know where Greece is? Paul, Silas, and Timothy travelled together as missionaries to Greece spreading the good news, the gospel, of Jesus Christ. In Thessalonica, no one had heard about Jesus. There were Jewish people living there who were still waiting for the Messiah to come. And there were Gentiles living there who worshiped fake gods. But when the missionaries came and preached the gospel, lots and lots of people received Jesus.

Why? Because the Holy Spirit came with the missionaries with the power of God.

Did you know that when you talk about Jesus and what he has done for us, you aren’t just telling a really nice story, you are sharing the power of God?

The power to take away sin.

The power to trust God.

The power to defeat Satan.

The power to live for God.

This power of the Holy Spirit gave Paul and the other missionaries a deep conviction. That means that they really believed what they were talking about. The missionaries weren’t lying to or tricking the people that they preached to; they were preaching something that they believed with all their heart.

Do you believe the good news of Jesus with all your heart? I hope so. And I hope that you have seen how powerful the good news is. It is the power of God to save you from sin and give you a whole new life. Jesus’ life.

Because of the Holy Spirit the good news of Jesus is being told to people all over the world.

With the Holy Spirit we can believe the good news with deep conviction.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Make Romans 1:16 a memory verse for your family.

PRAY TOGETHER

Father, the gospel is not just words, it is your power to save me. Help me to believe it with deep conviction. Amen.
