TLIC Family. 40 DAYS WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT. DAY 40: THE DAY THE HOLY SPIRIT SAYS COME.

THINK TOGETHER.

What’s the best invitation you’ve ever had?

READ TOGETHER.

Revelation 22:17. The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life.

I remember when I was in elementary school I had a crush on a little girl in my class. She invited me to her birthday party. You better believe I went to that party. I picked out a cute stuffed monkey to give her as a gift. Then that Summer she moved away forever. How sad.

Since then, I’ve been invited to other parties, weddings, trips, concerts, and I’ve been invited to go to someone’s house for dinner. These have all been great invitations. What’s the best invitation you’ve ever had?

Whatever it was, I’m sure it was amazing, but not as amazing as this invitation in Revelation 22:17. In this verse, the Holy Spirit and the bride are inviting everyone to come to Jesus. Jesus? Yes, when it says Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life this is an invitation to come to Jesus. The water of life is Jesus. Without him we would die from thirst, spiritual thirst. The Holy Spirit and the bride (the bride is the church) are inviting everyone to come and receive Jesus as their savior. This is an invitation for everyone who is thirsty. Not literally thirsty for water, but thirsty in their heart for God’s love, forgiveness, and holiness.

This is the best invitation ever! You will never be invited to something greater than this. God is inviting you to his party and you don’t even have to bring a gift. And best of all, God won’t ever move away. This party is one that last forever.

The Holy Spirit is inviting you right now to receive Jesus if you haven’t already. Come! Drink. Why be thirsty when you can be satisfied. Why feel guilty when you can be and feel forgiven. Why feel rejected when you can be and feel loved. Why feel bored when you can be and feel excited to serve God. Why feel scared when you can be and feel brave. Why feel confused when you can be and feel assured of what happens to you in the end:

Revelation 22:20. He who is the faithful witness to all these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon!” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!

If you’ve already listened to the Holy Spirit’s invitation and come to Jesus that’s great, now join him as the bride, the church, who also invites others to come to Jesus too.

Because of the Holy Spirit we have been invited to come to Jesus.

With the Holy Spirit we can invite others to come to Jesus too.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Be invitational like the Holy Spirit. Is there someone you could invite to church where they will hear about Jesus? What about inviting someone over to your house where you can show the love of Jesus to them?

PRAY TOGETHER

Father, thank you for inviting me through your Holy Spirit to the great party with Jesus. I want others to be able to come too, so help me to invite them to come to Jesus. Amen.
