TLIC Family. Day 155. June 4: He is risen, as he said.

THINK TOGETHER

What do you do on Easter Sunday? Traditions? Church? Events?

READ TOGETHER

The very first Easter probably didn’t look anything like your normal Easter. Maybe you went to church and sang happy songs about Jesus rising from the dead. And maybe you looked for eggs in the yard and ate a chocolate bunny. Maybe some family came over and you all at a big meal together.

But on that first Easter morning there was no big meals, or songs, or celebrations. Just a whole lot of sadness that turned into a whole lot of confusion.

Jesus had just died on the cross on Friday, and so on Sunday when three women went to his tomb to anoint his dead body with the traditional oils and spices, they were very sad still. And you can imagine their surprise and confusion when they got to the tomb and found the huge stone rolled away and angels sitting there waiting for them.

Here’s what the angel said to the women that morning:

Matthew 28:5-6. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.

Why do we worship Jesus?

We worship Jesus because he is the only person to conquer sin and death with his own indestructible, undefeatable, all powerful life. He is the only person to say exactly when he would die, how he would die, and more importantly when and how he would come back to life. Nobody else has ever done that before, and nobody else ever will do that.

How did Jesus do it? Because he is God. And because he is God, he is perfect. And because he is perfect he is stronger than the penalty for sin – death. And because he is stronger than death we who have received Jesus and his indestructible, undefeatable, all powerful life, never, ever have to be afraid again.

Oh for sure we will be afraid sometimes. But when we are afraid we know that we have eternal life and everlasting love in Jesus. And that is the best news ever.

Because of Jesus we too can have an indestructible life.

With Jesus we don’t have to be afraid because God is always with us.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Talk about your favorite “indestructible” superheroes (Superman, Hulk, etc…). What makes them undefeatable? What makes them defeatable? What makes Jesus truly undefeatable?

And here’s a fun song about victory in Jesus.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus,

We worship you because you are alive and undefeated by death. Help me to not be afraid because I know that I will live forever with you.

Amen.
