What does it mean that God is holy?

Proverbs 9:10. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
The book of Proverbs began with his same phrase – The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (1:7). The wise person honors God and holds him in the highest place in their heart. When we have Jesus we are not afraid of God, but we are in awe of God. Have you ever seen something awesome? Imagine how much more awesome seeing God will be.
But being wise isn’t just being in awe of God or thinking of God as big or powerful. Wisdom is knowing God. And it is knowing God as the Holy One.
What does it mean that God is holy? It means that he is perfect and pure. There is no sin in God and God cannot sin. This is what makes God, God. God IS holy. The only way for us to be holy (perfect) is to be made holy by God.
That’s why Jesus came to die for our sins, so that we could be made holy by God when we trust in Jesus as our savior. Being forgiven through Jesus is what allows a holy God to love us, and live with us forever. And being forgiven through Jesus is what allows us to know the holy God. Now God’s holiness doesn’t have to scare us, but we should always be in awe of it. When we forget that God is holy we quickly become fools, not wise.
Because of Jesus we can be holy like him.
With Jesus we can know our holy God.
